The Zone Diet is one of the simplest diets to follow, because you match your carbohydrate intake with your protein intake, keeping both of them in balance. The preferred ratio is 1:1, one block of protein matched with one block of carbohydrate. A protein block is 7 grams, while a carbohydrate block is 9 grams. A good example of a protein block is an ounce of raw chicken breast or about 1.5 ounces of sliced deli meat. A carbohydrate block is usually 1 cup of greens, vegetables, or fruit. The key is to always combine these two blocks at every meal. The other key is to have 40 percent complex carbohydrates, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat in the diet. This is the “magic” formula that combines to make weight loss possible.

Timing is Everything

Another key to the Zone Diet plan is timing when you eat, because the Zone Diet keeps everything in your body balanced, and that helps keep you from getting hungry. You should eat a zone diet meal or snack about every 4 to 5 hours after your last Zone meal, and about 2 to 2 1/2 hours after your last Zone snack, and you should have a Zone snack about 30 minutes before you go to bed.

Zone Diet Menu Plans

You can find numerous Zone Diet menu plans online and in print that will help you follow your Zone Diet. You have to remember that each person is different, so to begin the Zone Diet plan, you’ll need to determine your specific protein needs. Typically, a man needs about 4 protein blocks a meal, while a woman needs about 3 protein blocks a meal.

Meal plans are built around these needs, and protein blocks can include items like chicken, turkey, deli sandwich meat, pork, and even Canadian bacon. Carbohydrate blocks can include fruits, vegetables, salad greens, and an occasional slice of wholegrain bread.

Zone Diet No-No’s

You don’t have to count calories or carbohydrates on the Zone Diet, but there are some things you should avoid. Coffee, tea, chocolate, and caffeinated soft drinks are out, and so is alcohol, only one glass of wine per day is permitted. There are also food lists in the Zone Diet menu plans that should be avoided, such as pasta, bread, and potatoes, and high-sugar foods like corn, carrots, peas, bananas, raisins, and grapes. You can have these foods in moderation, but certainly not every day. Some low-carb foods like bread and pasta are OK occasionally on the Zone Diet, as long as they are created specifically to be low-carb.

Zone Diet Benefits
One of the benefits of Zone Diet menu plans is that you can eat just about any food; you just have to monitor some items. It also encourages energy and discourages hunger because of the timing of meals. You shouldn’t be hungry on this diet, and it encourages healthy eating habits that can stay with you a lifetime. So, check out the Zone Diet today, and create a healthier you, tomorrow.

Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, a researcher at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the zone diet is a diet plan that focuses on the ideal state of the body and the mind. This is a state of mind where the body will feel refreshed and at its peak of energy and performance. The term zone was borrowed from what athletes would often call the zone peak of performance wherein they achieve their bodies’ optimal degree of performance.

Dr. Sears, who has studied lipids and its role in the development of chronic diseases in then body, conceptualized the diet after the death of his father due to a heart attack in 1970. But the concept was still raw, not until 1982 when Nobel Prize jury gave a research grant to the study of the relationship of hormones called eicosanoids and the development of certain set of diseases that include diabetes, heart problem and even cancer.

In 1995, the doctor completed his research and compiled it in a book entitled, “Enter The Zone.” It became an international bestseller, topping lists worldwide. To date, it has sold more than four million copies. The book was so successful that Dr. Sears published 10 more books about the subject.

Despite this, critics still point out that the theory has not much merit as there are no scientific evidence about it. Although the zone diet is indeed effective in reducing the pounds. Some in fact continue to lose 1.5 pounds every week. There have even been people who have not lost any pounds with other diets but have lost with the zone diet.

The diet encourages the consumption of grilled meats, a lot of fruits and of course veggies. People who are under the program will have some meals that are composed of one slice of meat and two-thirds fruits and veggies. The diet is primarily composed of 40 percent carbohydrate, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fats in the form of monosaturated fats such as those found in fruits such as avocado, guacamole and macadamia nuts.

Carbohydrates are taken in through fruits, veggies and whole grains. Sometimes pasta, rice and breads are permitted but only small portions. The protein on the other hand are taken in through lean cuts of meat and poultry such as chicken and turkey. Fishes may also be eaten as well as soy products.

There are countless weight loss and diet programmes available on the market today, but none have taken Hollywood by storm in that same way that the Zone diet has. In recent times, the diet has been completely unstoppable, and has even seen the rise of Zone Diet delivery services. The zone diet works on the principle of everything in balance, and encourages participants to eat meals within a set ration of carbohydrates to proteins to fats. This aims to provide the right balance for the needs of the body to aid effective natural and safe weight loss, and boy is it successful.

The zone diet delivery services deliver freshly prepared meals in this ratio direct to the doorstep of customers. The meals are deposited in ice packs in the morning for customers to eat throughout the day, and aims to encourage weight loss through proportionate meals and sheer convenience. Customers can pick from a variety of meal options, which are prepared by gourmet chefs in accordance with the principle of this highly popular programme. The zone diet delivery service then drops the food at the customers house, taking away all the effort of preparing proportionate meals, and making for a significantly more enjoyable dieting experience.

The zone diet is a proven way of losing weight naturally through balancing the diet. By ensuring every meal is in the correct proportions, the diet proves that a healthy balanced lifestyle is good for you, and with the many zone diet delivery services now available, the diet is becoming more popular than ever. With this new service, dieters don’t have to change their lifestyles, and can spend more time doing the things they enjoy, rather than cooking tricky, but healthy food.

If you take supplements, it is a good idea to consult your physician before embarking on the zone diet, or before signing up to a zone diet delivery service. However, on the whole, the zone diet is a highly effective and safe way to lose weight, and improve your health. Wonder why it’s the diet of choice for so many?

Not having to count calories and watch what you eat, are two very good reasons why zone diet meal delivery is popular.

The majority of people aren’t familiar with the recommended daily optimal intake of protein, fat and carbs. In fact most people exceed the recommended values. What’s more the seemingly ‘healthy’ foods that you order in food establishments often exceed the daily recommended intake of protein by an average 85.8 grams. It’s no wonder that the zone meal delivery has become a hit with those who enjoy eating and staying healthy.

Fat intake is on average 7.6 grams, however not all fats are the same. There is good fat and then there’s heart and artery clogging fat. Unfortunately most of us are guilty of consuming too much of the latter. Burgers, fries, fried chicken and general take-out food, although tasty are high in fat and low in any nutritional value.

In addition, most of us fail to meet the ideal ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fat. The ideal ratio determined by Dr. Barry Sears is 40:30:30 respectively, while the average diet falls at 57:28:15. However this is only an average figure, depending on your diet and caloric intake your ratio may change dramatically from day to day.

If you’re looking to lose weight then it is important not only to watch what you eat, but also how much you eat in terms of calories. Setting a caloric range of 1200-1500 a day is ideal if you want to lose weight. Counting calories requires a great deal of research; it can be a tedious and rather tricky task.

Counting calories is one thing, however counting calories and meeting the 40:30:30 ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fat in every single meal and snack that you consume, is a whole different ballgame. Many foods lack the nutritional facts that help you determine the caloric intake. So unless you are willing to track everything you eat and adhere to the ideal ratio of carbs, protein and fat, then there really is no better way to lose weight and stay healthy than through zone diet meal delivery.

Zone diet meal delivery is more than just a weight loss delivery service. It’s a service that delivers fresh and tailor made meals and snacks straight to your front door. More over, each meal has been created with the 40:30:30 ratio in mind. Each meal matches your needs in caloric intake and focuses on delivering the healthiest variety of carbohydrates, protein and fat.

If you thought that eating healthy was a bowl of green salad minus any frills, then you’re going to be in for a surprise. The zone meal delivery isn’t about delivering rabbit food, in fact with such variety and mouthwatering dishes on the menu, you’re going to be wondering if you’re even on a diet!

What can you expect from the zone meal delivery? How about deliciously comforting ‘Angus Beef’ stew accompanied by steamed red bliss potatoes, hearty root vegetables and sumptuous brown gravy? What’s more you can still eat your favorite sweets. Thought you’d be giving up on cheesecake? Think again! No more bacon? You thought wrong!

You’re salivating at the thought of eating all the foods that you thought were surely forbidden when going on a diet, but wait, ‘How much is this going to cost?’ you’re wondering. Back in the early days of zone diet meal delivery, it was expensive, however some companies have woken up to this fact and launched new programs costing less than $15 a day! Well it doesn’t take a genius to work out that this is an awfully good deal. How else can you be guaranteed to lose weight, and eat healthy and delicious meals everyday?

What is the Zone Diet and what are its benefits and its consequences? The Zone Diet was developed by a former MIT biotechnology researcher, Dr. Barry Sears. The Zone Diet is named so because there exists a “zone” where hormones like insulin and eicosanoids are neither too high nor too low and thus just where they need to be for ideal health. These hormonal levels are dictated by the foods that we choose to eat and if we choose to eat foods that keep insulin in check then we will look forward to a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease and increased mental clarity and fat loss. Furthermore, if our eicosanoid levels can be controlled then benefits like decreased joint inflammation and increased blood flow will be reaped which in turn means better athletic performance and overall mobility.

So how does the Zone Diet actually work? The ultimate goal of insulin control is achieved by balancing protein and carbohydrates at each meal. All in all, the diet stresses moderate levels of everything, so moderate fat intake, moderate carb intake, and moderate protein consumption. As far as percentages go, the macronutrient breakdown is about 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fats. All protein servings should range between 3-4 oz, most carbs should be consumed through ample amounts of fruits and vegetables with starches only used sparingly. Carbohydrate portions should roughly be double the protein portion.

For fats, one should use heart-friendly monounsaturated fats as opposed to saturated ones. Another component of the diet that is also integral for complete health is to supplement with fish oil capsules to even better reinforce your cardiovascular system. Now to help achieve this 40:30:30 ratio, Dr. Sears has formulated “food blocks” that represent a standardized amount of carbs, fats, or protein. In order to lose weight, one must allocate the correct number of blocks for each macronutrient. The number of food blocks is based upon one’s height and waist and hip circumference. So, generally speaking, the larger you are, the more food blocks you will be allowed. So,, that is the Zone Diet in a nutshell, but is the diet worth it?

Certainly weight can be lost in the process, and it is certainly not as restrictive as South Beach or Atkins, but the sheer difficulty of finding foods that fit the food blocks and making other tedious adjustments ultimately makes the diet unappealing for most. To make matters worse, if one’s schedule doesn’t allow for such regimented cooking, then expect to pay an exorbitant amount for prepared meals. And if you do undertake the Zone Diet at home, then be prepared to accurately measure your ingredients and exclude a number of foods that most would find to be healthy, such as whole grains. This rigidity also makes it difficult for many to eat out. So, the fact that the Zone Diet is lower in calories than the typical American diet and thus obviously resulting in weight loss is still not enough incentive for many to stick with the unnecessarily challenging diet in the long run.

Do any of the fad diets out there, like the zone diet, work? I see them on television, in magazine, and on line: ads for the latest and greatest fad diet. Each one claims to have the answer to easy weight loss. Such fads are the price we pay for living in an obese capitalist society, but do any of them work? Statistically, those who use fad diets gain back their weight or even more weight 90% of the time.

One of the most popular recent fad diets to hit the mainstream is the zone diet. The zone diet, not unlike many of the recent fad diets, is based on carbohydrate intake. The diet is based on proportions of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. In addition, it is based on the idea of favorable or unfavorable types of each of those dietary components.

The biggest draw back to the zone diet is that it is very restrictive and structures. In the zone diet, you are to have five meals and two snacks per day. You are supposed to eat within an hour of getting up in the morning, eat regularly, and not eat more than 500 calories at one time. The zone diet’s “rules” make it so that the dieter’s life forever revolves around the food and eating.

The next issue with the zone diet is the learning curve involved. When you have to basically get a full dietary education in order to work a diet, then success is that much more difficult to reach. You have to learn things like how much food it in one “block” of protein, fat, and carb. You also have to know how to combine them and know a fair amount about glycemic loads in carbohydrates.

The alternative would be to have a sensible low calorie diet, work out a few times a week, and drink plenty of water. You don’t have to take the time to schedule precise meal times and a masters in dietary chemistry is unnecessary. With the zone diet, you will be constantly in calculation of your blocks and meals and combos. Isn’t it just easier to work out, eat sensibly, and enjoy your life a little more?

Fad diets are a tempting trend. Each one claims a quick fix to your weight problems. The all claim to be easy, but each ends up requiring you to read extensively and stay on a strict schedule. Making the switch in lifestyle to just eating less and working out more will allow you to, in moderation, eat the things you enjoy and to gain the overall health benefits of increased muscle tone, hormone production, and sense of well being. So don’t fall into the trap set by fads like the zone diet. We live in an obese and capitalist society, but here is a free way to stay out of the world of obesity: eat well, work out often, and love yourself.

The difference between zone diet meal delivery compared to other weight loss programs is that it was never designed solely for weight loss. Zone diet meal delivery is all about holistic health and not just about shedding off pounds, like other superficial weight loss programs. Each meal is balanced with the perfect ratio of protein, carbs and fat and focuses on delivering healthy alternatives to sugar and fats.

Zone diet meal delivery has been proven to aid weight loss, but there’s a lot more to zone diet menu plans than meets the eye. Quality of food plays an important role in zone diet meal delivery. Because each dish has been carefully crafted by some of the top chefs, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy delicious food on par with some of the best restaurants.

Who said that going on a diet had to be boring? It’s no fun eating bland and flavorless food, but with the zone meal delivery you will never have to worry about this. If I ask you to envision a plate of healthy food, what do you see? Often a small plate of bland green leaves is the answer. No wonder people hate dieting so much.

If they only knew how easy and fun it can be though, they probably wouldn’t give in so quickly. Dieting or weight loss doesn’t require starvation and eating rabbit food daily. If you’re stomach and palate isn’t satisfied you won’t last long in the dieting game.

Fortunately zone diet meal delivery doesn’t skimp on flavor, nutrition or portions. Each dish matches the correct portion sizes for a healthy meal. You won’t feel hungry after each meal because they have been designed to make you feel full up, even if you have actually eaten less than usual.

Zone diet menu plans will make you feel like you’re enjoying 5 star foods. What’s more zone diet meal delivery gives you a daily plan to stick to, so that you’re eating at the right times ensuring that you’re not going to be hit with hunger throughout the day. You will eat 5 meals a day to ensure that you’re metabolism is active and that you avoid hunger pangs.

Variety is what keeps things interesting, and with zone diet menu plans you can enjoy such variety that you will never get bored of the meals. Some programs offer 43-day menu plans which means you’ll get to enjoy hundreds of wonderful meals, including snacks and desserts.

You might be thinking that this is a little excessive, but the real reason for such variety when it comes to zone diet meal delivery is due to the fact that a constant shift in the type of calories consumed raises metabolism and increases fat loss.

Other weight loss programs can rarely be relied upon long term due to adverse affects on health. However where zone diet meal delivery is different is that it’s far more than just a weight loss service, it’s a way of life.

This diet works on the premise that your body needs to be in a certain state to burn fat at a steady, stable rate - which means you will lose weight and keep it off. This state is referred to as “The Zone”.

A favourite of many celebrities, including Demi Moore and Sandra Bullock, the Zone Diet has kept its popularity in the face of newer diets such as Atkins and The South Beach diet, and although still classed as a “fad” diet, Zoning has its advantages.

So how do I get into The Zone?

Well, you have to be organised, for starters. The theory behind the Zone Diet states that you should be eating, on a daily basis, 30% protein foods, 40% carbohydrate foods and 30% fats. But before you go off and load your plate up with butter, that’s “good” fats - the kind found in oily fish such as salmon and mackerel, unsaturated oils like olive oil, avocados and nuts. Eating these food proportions at every mealtime should keep your blood sugar at a steady level, which means your body releases less insulin. High insulin levels encourage fat storage, low levels encourage fat burning, resulting in weight loss. Elementary, my dear Watson.

Actually it isn’t. The theory is quite complicated, and working out how much you should be eating in a day is quite a challenge.

What can I eat?

Lean meat, fish, egg whites, low fat dairy and meat substitutes such as tofu and soya. Most vegetables and fruit apart from carrots, corn, bananas and raisins, and fats as mentioned above. Oatmeal and barley are the only grains allowed.

Doesn’t sound too bad. But what are the portion sizes?

For protein, a portion is the size and thickness of your palm. Vegetables, pile ‘em high, add a splash of olive oil as dressing, and you have a Zone - perfect meal. And you eat 3 meals a day with 2 snacks in between, so you will never have to wait too long. In fact, you are encouraged to plan your mealtimes with military precision so that you never go more than 4 - 5 hours without food - you don’t want your blood sugar to drop too low and upset the hormonal apple cart!

Do I have to exercise?

‘Fraid so! Exercise is encouraged, which can only be a good thing.

How much weight will I lose?

Up to 5lb in the first week (don’t get too excited, this is mostly water and probably some muscle, which is why you must exercise - muscle loss bad!), then 1 -2lbs per week after that, which is perfect. Slow weight loss = permanent weight loss.

On the whole, this is a sensible fad diet, which sets it apart from some of the others out there. Leaving out the science part of the Zone Diet, you will lose weight because it is basically quite low calorie - around 1300 kcals per day. Starchy foods like wheat, rice and potatoes are discouraged, which I think is a pity, as they provide many useful vitamins and lots of fibre (essential for bowel health). I’m never too happy about cutting down on food groups drastically, which is what this does, but you could add some of the above without ruining the plan - granary bread and brown rice are low to medium GI and won’t cause spikes in your blood sugar levels, which is what this diet is trying to avoid.

If you follow the Zone Diet and exercise, you will get good results that you can maintain in the long term.

I wonder if I can get to look like Demi Moore?
